Put me in Coach
As Joel's team (The Tigers) enters tournaments, I thought I would take a few minutes and share a few of my favorite pictures from the season. I honestly have no idea what the final season score was, but I know they are now winning in the losers bracket of tournaments. It's a double elimination tournament. Joel also made the All Star Team this year and begins practices next week. He will compete in 3 All Star Tournaments this year!!!! Just when I thought the season was over BAMB 4 more weeks!

Hot Dogs at the Last Supper (and Frostys this weekend)
Each night when Aliya goes to bed, after milk and before prayers we read her "Jesus" book, it's actually one of those musical books where you press the image on the side and it plays a song according to the page you turn to and each page is a stage in Jesus' life with the words of the song on the page. Anyway, Aliya LOVES this book. She presses the button and flips through each page carefully. She loves the Angel on the first page telling the shepherds that Christ was born, and then there's the baptism in the "wawa" and the little girl who was sick until Jesus prayed for her (she kisses her and hugs this page, very cute). Then comes the last supper, this page illustrates Jesus holding a loaf of bread in and thanking God for it. EVERY time she turns to that page she points to the loaf and excitedly says "hagog" (hot dog) No matter how many times I say "bread" hagog is all I get in return. It is the cutest thing!! She gets two songs a night and then she closes the book and kisses Jesus' face on the front and says "night night".

Design a Frosty eCard for Dad: Kids can go to FrostyCard.com to create a free custom Father’s Day eCard and Wendy’s will donate an additional 25¢ to the DTFA for every Frosty Card sent. Kids choose from a variety of scenes and objects, from sandcastles on the beach to baseball in the backyard. They can also give Dad a taste of Hollywood by selecting a pre-designed card created by a celebrity, such as actress Eva Longoria-Parker or former NBA star Alonzo Mourning, who along with other celebrities, designed cards to show their support of this cause.
“The Wendy’s system is very proud to be involved with this special event that supports the cause that our founder, Dave Thomas, was most passionate about – finding a permanent and loving home for every child in the foster care system,” said Wendy’s President David Karam, who serves on the board of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. “This is our third year for Father's Day Frosty Weekend and we've set our fundraising goal at $1.7 million! We hope families will find this an enjoyable way to celebrate Father’s Day while making a difference in the lives of foster children.”
After raising more than $1 million in 2007 and over $1.5 million in 2008 during Father’s Day Frosty Weekend, Wendy’s remains committed to supporting the cause of foster care adoption in the U.S.
The money raised during the weekend will support the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and its signature program: Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK). This program is filling a critical need by funding full-time adoption professionals at local agencies in all 50 states to match parents with waiting foster care children.

OU graduation 2009
So, I can't believe my little brother has graduated from college already. I spent the day on Saturday with family at his graduation. We went out to lunch after to celebrate! Here are my first round of pictures, more to come!

Invention Convention
This year Joel's class participated in an Invention Convention instead of a science fair. Each student had to event a simple solution to a problem. They also had to choose an inventor and write a paper on their life. Each student filled out a patten application too, we'll see how far Joel's project goes!
After weeks of thinking and brainstorming (and several suggestions from everyone) Joel choose to make a "Food Pantry Shopping Guide". It is a spread sheet that attaches to the outside of your pantry to keep an inventory of what you have in your cupboard. The goal is to cut down on over spending on food you already have on hand.
Jon and Joel worked very hard on this project. It was neat to see them working together, butting heads and having such pride in the finished product.
The students were graded on their knowledge of their product as well as originality. The convention was open to parents and the students. Jon's mom was in town that week so she was able to attend the fair.
There were all kinds of inventions, it was really neat to see all the hard work and effort put into these projects.

The look
So we all know Aliya is one of the most vocal children we've ever met...well, now she's trying to put sentences together. She will run over to us and say something (we can only recognize about 2 words) then she stars at us waiting for an answer...she gets this blank look on her face and just looks at us. When we try to answer and get it wrong, she grunts and walks away. I wish I could capture this look on camera (I will try)...it's just too priceless for words. Tonight she was trying to tell me something about Gracie's water (I think)...and she got so frustrated with me. It is hard not to laugh (which really gets her made). So after a minute of "telling us" she starts using all the signs she knows in a row to get our attention "milk, water, please, help, more..." I can't wait until the words come more clearly!!!

The Self Photo
I really don't enjoy getting my picture taken by others, but there is something about the "self photo" that I love and can't get enough of. Back in the day, before we went digital, I used to take a self photo on every roll of film just to surprise my mom. Old tricks die hard, as you can see.
Last weekend we went bowling with the in laws and Jon's mom...i had to get at least one shot with everyone.
